Walmart today announced its plans to expand its same-day grocery delivery service, a part of its “Walmart To Go” offering, to a new market: Denver, Colorado. This move follows the company’s ongoing grocery delivery tests which have been taking place over the last couple of years in San Jose and San Francisco. The Denver area test is currently a closed beta, meaning customers will be allowed to trial the new service on a first-come, first served basis only. For now, they can request access by signing up at Walmart.com/togo. The retailer says it began online grocery delivery in San Jose and San Francisco back in April 2011, where the service is also available to most cities along the peninsula. Customers can choose from tens of thousands of eligible items online, including fresh produce, meat and seafood, dairy, bakery items, and even non-grocery items like health and beauty products, electronics and toys. Shoppers designate a two-hour slot for their delivery, then orders are fulfilled by local Walmart Supercenters and delivered in Walmart To Go trucks. These branded trucks have previously been used in the San Jose and San Francisco areas, and are now coming to the Denver area, too. Denver was already participating in Walmart’s broader efforts in same-day delivery, which began in select markets last fall. Denver in particular gained same-day delivery in November 2012. For background, last October, Walmart announced its intentions to experiment in this area of same-day delivery, which began with tests in Northern Virginia (outside D.C.), Philadelphia, Minneapolis, and San Jose/San Francisco, initially. Customers in those regions could shop online – though not necessarily for groceries – then have their orders sourced and fulfilled by their local Walmart stores. The company is still experimenting with price points for this service, it seems, as they note that the Denver area delivery fees will be “in the $5 to $10 range.” However, it will run some introductory offers for new participants in order to encourage sign-ups, including some free delivery options, we’re told. Same-day delivery is available for orders placed by 8 AM M.T. in the Denver market, and returns can be handled at the time of delivery, in-store, or by phoning to have a driver return to pick up the item. A typical security suite includes antivirus, firewall, spam filtering, parental control, and some kind of privacy protection, often antiphishing. Webroot SecureAnywhere Internet Security Plus (2014) ($59.99 direct for three devices) skips spam filtering and parental control, since many users don't need these. The security components it does include are uniformly impressive, and it's the smallest suite around as far as disk space and resource usage goes.
Webroot's standalone antivirus includes an outbound firewall (relying on Windows Firewall for inbound protection) and a powerful antiphishing component. The most visible thing that the suite adds is a full-featured password manager, powered by LastPass. What you don't see immediately is you can use your three licenses to install the Webroot suite on any combination of PCs, Macs, and Android devices. A handy online console manages all your installations and lets you access your passwords from any Web-equipped PC.
Unusual Antivirus The typical antivirus relies on a combination of signature-based detection and behavioral or heuristic detection, but Webroot isn't typical. It does include signatures for common threats in its cloud-based system, but its primary means of detecting malware involves tracking hundreds of program behaviors and traits. I put extra effort into testing, to verify that it does what it says. You really, really should read my review of Webroot SecureAnywhere Antivirus (2014) to fully understand the antivirus, as this review will simply summarize my findings.
Webroot installs in minutes and immediately performs a full scan; it's done with that scan before most products would have finished installing and updating. It installed in a flash on all but one of my malware-infested test systems, and a quick session with Webroot's bootable remote-control diagnostic system solved a ransomware problem on that holdout.
At the end of any scan that found malware, Webroot re-scans to make sure no traces remain. On two systems it advised contacting tech support for manual removal. The process took hours of remote control by tech support and involved threat-specific tools from Webroot and third parties, as well as one-off cleanup scripts written by the support agents.
Webroot detected 89 percent of the samples, more than any other suite tested using the same sample collection. It scores 6.6 points, sharing first place with Bitdefender Internet Security (2014) and F-Secure Internet Security 2014. Webroot's handling of unknown programs just isn't compatible with most independent lab tests, though the company has announced that AV-Test is working on switching to a compatible test regimen. The chart below summarizes recent test results, but there's just not enough info from the labs to help evaluate Webroot. Webroot doesn't flag an unknown program as malicious until it performs a malicious action, so after my baseline malware blocking test I let it run overnight. In the morning it had detected a few more samples. To check its claimed ability to journal activity by an unknown program and roll it back upon detecting it as malicious, I repeated this test with Webroot cut off from the Internet, then reestablished an Internet connection after launching all samples. The results were comparable.
Webroot detected 91 percent of the malware samples and scored 8.8 points in this test. That's roughly in the middle of the pack, and a bit higher than the 8.5 points earned by Norton Internet Security (2014). Los Angeles (AFP) - Having resuscitated their flagging World Cup bid, Mexico head into their final qualifier at Costa Rica on Tuesday determined to make the most of their chance.
"Our goal is to go through and we will seek to win against Costa Rica," said manager Victor Manuel Vucetich, who was tasked with salvaging Mexico's disastrous campaign and saw his side beat Panama 2-1 on Friday in his first match at the helm.
Raul Alonso Jimenez was the unlikely star for Mexico, his spectacular bicycle kick five minutes from full-time giving the El Tri their first home win in the six-nation final qualifying group in North and Central America and the Caribbean.
The victory moved Mexico into fourth place, three points behind Honduras -- who need only to draw at last-placed Jamaica to punch their ticket to Brazil.
That means Mexico are almost certainly looking at a playoff against Oceania champions New Zealand for a World Cup berth, although they still nurse slim hopes of sneaking past Honduras for third place and a direct entry to the finals.
"We have to give it our all to get the three points," said Oribe Peralta, who scored the opener against Panama.
"We know that with one point we are in the playoff, but we will go in with the intention of qualifying directly if we get the right result in Honduras. It's still possible but it doesn't depend on us."
While Mexico's players are well aware they can't afford a let down, captain Rafael Marquez acknowledged that Friday's victory was a major morale boost for the struggling side who were facing the real possibility of missing the World Cup for the first time since 1990.
The win, he said, "brought us calm. It removed this bad vibe that we had at the Azteca stadium."
If Mexico can't maintain their momentum, Panama will try to pounce.
They lie fifth in the table, trailing Mexico by three points, and host group winners the United States.
Panama's hopes of seizing fourth place and a playoff chance received a small boost when US manager Jurgen Klinsmann said at the weekend that Landon Donovan would miss the match because of a sore ankle.
The United States clinched top spot in the group with a 2-0 win over Jamaica on Friday. They have 19 points, four more than Costa Rica who have also already secured their Brazil berth.
Klinsmann will also be without Jermaine Jones, who is nursing a knee injury, while goalkeeper Tim Howard and Matt Besler have also left the squad as part of a planned rotation of players.
"Landon is still struggling with the ankle injury from a couple of weeks ago, so he will go back to Los Angeles and try to get back to 100 percent," Klinsmann said.
"Jermaine’s case is more of a concern. His knee was bothering him all night on Friday but he battled through. It's clear that the issue with his knee is something that should be taken care of right away so he can be 100 percent for Schalke and the national team as soon as possible."
Carine Roitfeld, star of Fabien Constant's documentary Mademoiselle C, has found a fan in Michelle Obama.
According to Fashionista, the director confirmed to the fashion news website that the first lady requested a copy of Mademoiselle C -- which documents Roitfeld's life as she launches her own magazine, CR Fashion Book -- for a private screening at the White House.
During New York Fashion Week in September, the world premiere of Mademoiselle C (co-sponsored by The Hollywood Reporter) saw actresses Sarah Jessica Parker, Rose Byrne and Kelly Rutherford; supermodels Miranda Kerr, Alessandra Ambrosio, Karolina Kurkova and Lily Donaldson; and Hollywood stylist George Kotsiopoulos also showing their support for the chic 58-year-old French fashion icon.
"I learned about Carine that she is mixing everything -- work and personal life -- but I didn't expect it to be that much," said Constant at the star-studded premiere in New York. Garold Lantz and Sandra Loeb of the McGowan School of Business, at King's College, in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania, found that male drivers are more likely to engage in texting while driving but consider themselves more proficient drivers than others and so less likely to endanger themselves or others while doing so.
Analysis indicates 'texting impulsiveness' is positively associated with people who text frequently and those who text while driving, the team reports in the International Journal of Sustainable Strategic Management this month.
Earlier studies have suggested that texting while driving is on a par with driving while intoxicated with alcohol as a significant risk factor for highway accidents. Indeed, some research suggested that texting slows driver reaction times more than being drunk. Other studies reinforce the myth of multitasking and show that very few (2.5%) people can competently undertake two or more tasks at once. Moreover, our brains allow us to focus completely only on a single task at any given time, so those people demonstrated as multitaskers are simply better at switching seamlessly between two activities. Texting while driving is already banned in some countries, including the UK for this reason.
"There seems to be a mentality that use of electronic devices is dangerous for everyone but 'me'," the team says. While the US government has introduced a public awareness campaign based around the "distraction.gov" web site, the means to correct for such a risky practice as texting while driving is in dispute. The team's study provides useful empirical evidence regarding attitudes to this issue.
"If further research conclusively demonstrates that texting while driving is as dangerous as driving drunk this study suggests that a promotional campaign should be undertaken to assure that this point is clearly understood," the team suggests. Lantz points out that, "Our study, particularly our measurement of impulsiveness, is exploratory. We have been working to develop that measurement and it is still a work in progress," he says.

Qatar unveiled 14 massive bronze sculptures by British artist Damien Hirst charting the gestation of a human being from conception to birth.
The "Miraculous Journey" statues were uncovered for a day this week outside the Sidra Medical and Research Centre, still under construction on the outskirts of Doha.
They were put back under wraps until January 14 to "protect them while work is ongoing" in the area, the Qatar Museums Authority explained.
The project is an initiative by Sheikha Al-Mayassa bint Hamad Al-Thani, the emir's sister who heads the museums authority and wants to give a boost to art in the gas-rich Gulf state.
The installation consists of 14 figures which took three years to create, ranging between 4.8 metres (15.75 feet) and 10.7 metres (35 feet) in height and weighing between nine and 28 tonnes each.
They begin with the fertilisation of an egg and end with a fully-formed baby. It portrays the gestation of a foetus.
The unveiling coincided with the Doha opening on Thursday of a first solo exhibition in the Middle East by controversial artist Hirst. Entitled Relics, it runs until January 22.
The exhibition showcases Hirst's diamond-encrusted skull, "For the Love of God," as well as a shark preserved in formaldehyde.
Qatar this month displayed a statue immortalising French footballing legend Zinedine Zidane's headbutt on Italy's Marco Materazzi in the 2006 World Cup final on the Doha corniche.
The display comes as Qatar prepares to host the 2022 World Cup.
